- An age limit regulation enforcing restrictions on used vehicle imports to minimize pollution from older cars.
This comprehensive framework has stimulated numerous investments into Rwanda’s burgeoning EV sector. A prominent participant in this market is Kabisa, which has risen to be a top provider in East Africa dealing with sales, maintenance, and infrastructure related to electric vehicles. Recently, Kabisa celebrated the grand opening of its high-speed charging facility located at SP’s Kanombe station in Kigali City.
A Cutting-Edge Charging Solution
This ultra-fast charging station features units capable of delivering up to 240 kW power compared to most existing chargers around Kigali that typically range between 7.43 kW and 22 kW. With six dedicated bays designed specifically for both private cars and commercial fleets—including trucks, vans, or buses—the facility ensures simultaneous recharging capabilities. This advanced infrastructure allows most electrical vehicles to replenish their batteries considerably faster—between 15–25 minutes instead of over an hour required by conventional chargers—making it a sensible option particularly appealing to fleet operators who require maximizing road time over downtime due to charging logistics unlike personal vehicle users who can recharge while parked at home or work.
A Strategic Infrastructure InvestmentThis innovative hub represents just one element within a broader collaboration between Kabisa—a trailblazer among all-electric enterprises—and SP Rwanda; it marks the establishment’s inaugural instance nationwide . Support comes through Ireme Invest—a private green investment mechanism underpinned by Rwanda Green Fund coupled with Development Bank affiliation—and elements such as Meshpower alongside REG (Rwanda Energy Group). This ultrafast facility enhances Kabisa’s extensive public network comprising currently twenty-six locations across Rwanda save seven stationed strategically amidst SP venues.
Nestled strategically at SP’s Kanombe Station—which accommodates significant truck activity adjacent Calgary International Airport along major trade routes—the launching structure contributes significantly towards enabling fully electrified goods transport between maritime gateways like Mombasa or Dar es Salaam en route towards Rwandan destinations while simultaneously achieving savings estimated around eighty percent related directly toward either fuel consumption plus routine upkeep traditionally linked surrounding environmentally adverse fossil fuel methods.

Solid’Africa, a globally recognized NGO championing food security in Rwanda, has embarked on a significant transformation by converting their vehicle fleet to electric models. This strategic shift has not only led to substantial cost savings but also reinforced their commitment to sustainability. CEO Nassir Katuramu emphasized the importance of this transition:
“At Solid’Africa, we prioritize sustainability in every aspect of our operations. Our choice to partner with Kabisa for electric vehicles stems from two primary motivations: our dedication to environmental responsibility and the pursuit of financial prudence. Previously relying on rented fuel-driven vehicles incurred hefty rental and fuel charges. Transitioning to electric options enables us to minimize our carbon emissions while conserving resources—resources that are crucial for expanding our outreach in feeding those in need! Furthermore, benefiting from Rwanda’s tax incentives allowed us to acquire nine electric vehicles—a feat not feasible with traditional fuel-powered cars. This initiative is pivotal as we integrate sustainable practices into our long-term strategy.”

During the recent launch event that gathered government officials, partners, and stakeholders, Pophia Muhoza, Managing Director at Kabisa, invited attendees to envision a revolutionary transportation network:
“We are thrilled to unveil the first-ever Kabisa Supercharger for all EVs; this marks an essential milestone towards developing a network of ultra-fast chargers across East Africa. This is merely the beginning as we aspire to harness the full advantages offered by electric mobility—such as reduced costs, improved air quality, and decreased carbon footprints through vehicle sales along with maintenance services.”
