This November marks Stack Up’s tenth anniversary. “It’s disheartening,” Machuga expresses about tightening budgets within both his organization and across much of the gaming sector. “During COVID-19 we saw an influx in donations which has since dried up; we’ve had to shut down our warehouse for supplying care packages.” He maintains that while they are adjusting spending habits prudently given budget constraints, they yearn for greater financial freedom.
The challenge becomes more daunting when considering how perceptions toward veteran support have changed over time. “With each passing year since 9/11,” he notes sadly, “there seems to be dwindling enthusiasm from civilians towards supporting troops.” He advocates tirelessly for recognition amidst shifting societal focus on war-related issues.
