Compounding this predicament is emerging research indicating that instead of mitigating environmental harm as claimed, increased utilization of hydrogen may actually exacerbate climate change by inhibiting methane decomposition—a fact quantified recently indicating its potency ranges from 13 to 37 times greater than carbon dioxide depending upon time frames considered (100-year vs 20-year).
Additively concerning is data reflecting systematic underestimation regarding leakage rates throughout the supply chain; comprehensive analyses demonstrate loss ratios could exceed 1% per interaction point within each transaction from production through usage stages—which becomes alarmingly amplified during distribution phases between vendors leading back into vehicles requiring refueling expeditions often leading losses perhaps approaching up towards double digits percentage-wise.
