Introducing the MediaTek Dimensity 8400: A Game-Changer in Performance for Upper-Midrange SoCs
Last year, MediaTek introduced the Dimensity 9300, notable for being the first Android system-on-chip (SoC) to utilize an entirely powerful core setup in its CPU. Following that trailblazing path, this year’s Dimensity 9400 also follows suit with similar architecture. These models sit atop the premium segment of mobile chipsets.
Today signals a pivotal moment with the unveiling of the MediaTek Dimensity 8400—the inaugural upper-midrange SoC featuring a complete big-core CPU configuration. This new chipset is poised to challenge Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, which has long reigned supreme in this segment.

Specifications and Features: Enhanced Performance Metrics
The groundbreaking Dimensity 8400 is equipped with eight Cortex-A725 cores capable of reaching speeds of up to 3.25 GHz. It should be noted that while MediaTek hasn’t specified individual clock frequencies for each core, it is likely that only one core will achieve this peak speed at any given time.
In comparison to its predecessor, the Dimensity 8300, MediaTek asserts that users can expect an impressive multi-core performance increase of up to 41%. The company highlights enhancements such as a reduction in peak power consumption by as much as 44%, and significant boosts across various cache levels—with L2 cache increasing by up to double capacity, alongside a notable rise in L3 and SLC caches by approximately 50% and 25%, respectively. The SoC supports WQHD+ display resolution at refresh rates reaching up to an impressive144 Hz, along with compatibility for LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage technology; connectivity features include Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth version 5.4.
