Proton’s Electric Leap with the e.MAS 7
In December last year, Proton, a Malaysian automotive brand, introduced the e.MAS 7—marking its entry into battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). This model stems from a partnership with Chinese automaker Geely and represents an important breakthrough not only for Proton but also for Malaysia’s automotive landscape.
The Growing Popularity of EVs in Malaysia
Since its launch two months ago, the e.MAS 7 has captured considerable interest within Malaysia. Fuel prices currently stand at an average of $1.66 per gallon—which ranks among the lowest globally—making conventional fossil fuel cars seem economically favorable at first glance.
A Strategic Vision for Sustainability
The unveiling was led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and aligns perfectly with Malaysia’s ambitious National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), aiming to reach net-zero emissions by 2050. This initiative emphasizes Proton’s dedication to sustainable transportation and innovation while contributing significantly to national environmental goals.
Strong Initial Response in Sales Inquiries
A spokesperson from Proton’s sales team reported that while no official sales statistics are available yet, inquiries have soared beyond 10,000 within just a month post-launch. Notably, nearly 4,000 reservations have been made through Pro-Net—a wholly owned subsidiary that focuses exclusively on electric vehicles across Daimler-certified dealers nationwide.

The development of the e.MAS 7 involved extensive research; over three years were spent crafting this vehicle—a testament highlighted by engineers who state it is “not merely a badge-engineered product.” A cumulative total of over 700,000 man-hours went into designing and testing this vehicle across diverse Malaysian terrains.
This collaboration has allowed them to produce a globally relevant product tailored specifically for Malaysian needs. Dr. Li Chunrong, CEO of Proton emphasized this during launch remarks as he addressed their ability to innovate sustainably within their segment.
An Innovative Foundation: Global Modular Architecture
The e.MAS 7 is constructed upon the Global Modular Architecture platform featuring advanced technologies like a 12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system alongside cutting-edge Cell-to-Body battery architecture. The new lithium iron phosphate battery enhances performance and safety standards significantly; it has achieved high ratings including five stars from ASEAN NCAP assessments and incorporates L2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).

Performance Specifications and Comfort Features
The powertrain produces 160 kW with torque figures reaching 320 Nm, allowing rapid acceleration capability—attaining speeds from zero to one hundred km/h in just 6.9 seconds while stopping requires approximately fifteen meters when braking from highway speeds.
Variants include offerings such as Prime—with a 49.52 kWh battery facilitating up to 345 km range—and Premium variants extending up to 410 km thanks to sophisticated systems enabling fast charging capabilities throughout deployment sites nationwide.
Your driving experience is further enhanced by comfortable interiors ensuring ample seating arrangements paired with features including ventilated seats alongside smart tech like an expansive 15-inch touchscreen display, which offers real-time access data over local charging infrastructure—a network expected continuously growing due collaborations planned ahead.
