BYD’s March Commercial EV Sales
Let’s start off with March, and specifically with electric bus sales in March. BYD sold 388 electric buses in March, a 44% increase over the 269 electric buses sold in March 2024.
The non-bus commercial vehicles is where BYD is really shining, though. When I saw BYD’s non-bus commercial electric vehicle sales shoot up a few months ago, it was exciting, but I expected it could just be a short surge, as you get with large vehicles like this. But then it held steady, and held steady, and even just rose significantly in March! What an increase in sales in this important segment. The company’s 5,613 March sales were a 904% increase over March 2024’s 559 sales.
BYD’s 1st Quarter Commercial EV Sales
Across the 1st quarter, BYD’s electric bus growth was very similar. BYD had 1,127 sales, 42% more than the 795 sales it had in the 1st quarter of 2024. Overall, though, you can see that BYD’s bus sales are steadier — or growing less dramatically — than its non-bus commercial vehicle sales.
Looking at overall Q1 sales for BYD non-bus commercial vehicle sales, they rose to 13,579 units, an 1169% increase over the 1,070 sales of Q1 2024. Without a doubt, as much as BYD’s overall EV sales growth — passenger vehicles, buses, etc. — is positive and exciting, it’s this commercial EV segment that’s tingling my brain cells the most. Let’s see if BYD can keep up this massive growth in coming months.
