This misinterpretation of words does not happen consistently; however, during testing, “Trump” appeared more frequently than alternative erroneous terms such as “Rhett” and “Rouch” before being corrected back to “racist.”

An Apple representative informed The New York Times that this glitch likely stems from a phonetic similarity between the two terms. While both words share similar sounds, it’s uncertain if this issue is newly emerging or if it was always present but overlooked until now. John Burkey, a former member of Apple’s Siri team, suggested to The New York Times that existing code within Apple’s software may inadvertently trigger the output of “Trump” when listening for “racist.” He added that it’s plausible this could be an unintended prank effect rather than intentional coding or misleading data incorporated in Apple’s AI training sets.
