Siri enhances its visual appeal on iPhone displays, yet meaningful upgrades are lagging behind
Recent insights suggest that anticipated advancements in Apple’s virtual assistant Siri have been postponed until May 2025. It could take until 2027 for users to experience any major improvements.
Originally slated to incorporate features from Apple’s AI initiative in the release of iOS 18.4, Siri did not receive any updates during the initial developer beta due to these unexpected delays. While more changes may surface as the beta testing progresses, Bloomberg has indicated that Apple is significantly trailing behind its artificial intelligence objectives.
The latest assertion highlights that Siri is now expected to integrate new Apple Intelligence capabilities by May 2025. This initial set of features was designed so that users could ask Siri for information about individuals they had previously interacted with and access calendar details in response—a concept showcased in Apple’s recent advertisements.
However, there’s uncertainty regarding whether these functionalities will indeed debut in May; reports suggest that Siri continues to function as an unfinished blend of previous and modern systems. The traditional version of Siri is still able to perform tasks such as web searches and setting timers alongside a newer AI-infused system.
In alignment with iOS 18.4, with user consent, Siri will relay requests to ChatGPT—though this integration appears ineffective thus far. Additionally, feedback indicates a decline in performance concerning its established strengths within the developer beta version of iOS 18.4.
Reportedly, Apple has intentions to seamlessly unify the two versions of Siri into one cohesive system; however, this major overhaul isn’t expected until the rollout of iOS 19 projected for Spring 2026. Furthermore, there may not be any visible enhancements related to Apple Intelligence during any iteration of iOS 19.
Current expectations suggest that Apple may still be working towards realizing their initial promises regarding AI functionality. If this prediction holds true, improvements relating purely to backend functionalities for Apple Intelligence might stretch into mid-2026 or even further into 2027 before reaching consumers.
For WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) scheduled for June 2025, there were anticipations surrounding a more conversational approach from up-and-coming versions of Siri; nevertheless, this too seems unlikely to materialize by that date and may require further announcements at a later time.
The report emphasizes how these setbacks have positioned Apple considerably behind its rivals—particularly highlighting Amazon’s leading edge with their soon-to-launch enhanced Alexa platform.
