Initially, Meta’s primary focus will be on creating robots that can handle everyday chores around the home. However, their broader ambition includes developing artificial intelligence frameworks, sensors, and software solutions designed for third-party manufacturers who wish to craft their own robotic systems. Essentially, Meta strives to become the Android equivalent within the robotics industry.
Current Limitations and Future Investments
The existing state of robot technology does not yet support functions like laundry folding or dishwashing. Nonetheless, Meta believes that advancements in artificial intelligence coupled with innovations in virtual reality could significantly propel robotics forward. By 2025, the company intends to allocate approximately $65 billion towards enhancing its AI infrastructure as well as furthering developments in both robotics and virtual reality technologies.
