A Revolutionary Platform by NREL and DOE Enhances Geothermal Access
Your Gateway to Geothermal Energy
If locating geothermal educational programs, conferences, tax benefits, or other vital geothermal information has been a challenge for you, rest assured—you are not alone.
“The geothermal sector is robust and has established a tight-knit community over the years; however, accessing information can be cumbersome for newcomers,” explained Jon Weers, who serves as a data scientist at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) within their Strategic Energy Analysis Center. “With new technology revitalizing interest in geothermal energy, there is an increasing demand for accessible information.”
GeoBridge: Bridging the Gap in Geothermal Knowledge
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Geothermal Technologies Office (GTO) has collaborated with NREL to address this challenge by creating GeoBridge—a dedicated online platform designed to connect individuals with geothermal resources and communities.
“Many valuable resources related to geology are often locked behind paywalls or require memberships that make them hard to access,” Weers noted. “These obstacles can impede necessary collaboration and limit engagement from those new to the field of geothermal energy. GeoBridge seeks to eliminate these barriers by connecting users with essential tools and services.”
Diverse Resources at Your Fingertips
This innovative platform provides straightforward access to various topics associated with geothermal energy—from installation knowledge of geothermal heat pumps (GHPs) to career advice within the sector as well as educational materials aimed at saving costs for businesses.
A Collaborative Effort Towards Knowledge Accessibility
NREL developed this portal in conjunction with DOE and an advisory board made up of geothermal experts who helped pinpoint critical information gaps that hindered families, enterprises, students, and others from engaging with renewable resources.
The GeoBridge initiative acts as an entry point towards essential data regarding tools available in the market—covering permitting details alongside regulatory frameworks—aimed at simplifying contacts within this renewable sector.
Paving New Roads in the Geothermal Community
“This platform fills a vital need,” remarked Elisabet Metcalfe—the external affairs lead at GTO—adding that it’s “a singular public toolbox which grants effortless navigation through plentiful geoscience data.” This helps diversify stakeholder participation while nurturing a resilient community focused on sharing knowledge about harnessing sustainable energy.”
An Evolving Resource Hub for Tomorrow’s Needs
This initial rollout marks just the beginning; future enhancements will include advanced guidance on technical subjects concerning various stakeholders along with additional permitting regulations and links aimed at granting open-access paths useful across numerous fields—including both national labs’ efforts alongside other prominent contributors within diverse segments serving renewable solutions.
“We aspire for GeoBridge’s utility across different industries,” Weers stated emphatically while encouraging user input through their feedback mechanism available online. “Whether you’re aiming for bookings involving workshops relative toward new installations out local homes powering heat/cool systems—or if education interests led you towards pursuing upper-level studies pertaining strictly towards geology—we trust you’ll find help much easier moving forward.”
