Steps for Modifying ‍your Mac’s Startup⁢ Behavior

  1. Ensure ​that‌ your Apple silicon laptop runs macOS Sequoia or a later version.
  2. Launch the Terminal application ⁤located within the⁤ Utilities folder inside⁤ Applications.
  3. In Terminal, enter one ‌of these⁣ commands followed by ⁢pressing Return:
    • To disable startup on opening ‌the lid and⁢ while connected⁢ to power: sudo nvram BootPreference=%00
    • To stop it from starting only ‌upon opening ​the ​lid: sudo nvram BootPreference=%01
    • If you want it not to start solely while ⁢charging: sudo nvram BootPreference=%02
  4. You will⁢ be prompted⁢ for your administrator password (be aware that Terminal won’t display‌ any characters as you type), then⁣ hit Return.

If at any time⁢ you⁢ wish to revert these changes and restore default behavior for powering on⁣ your MacBook,​ open⁤ Terminal once again and simply input​ sudo nvram -d BootPreference.
