Introducing iOS 18.3: Key Upgrades and Features
Apple has officially rolled out iOS 18.3 after an extensive beta testing phase lasting over a month. This update, accessible to all users with compatible devices as of Monday, introduces several noteworthy enhancements, particularly regarding Apple Intelligence.
Activation of Apple Intelligence by Default
A significant shift in this update is the default activation of Apple Intelligence features, although users retain the option to disable it if they prefer. The previous method of indicating AI-generated notification summaries has also been revamped; now, these summaries are highlighted in italics and accompanied by a prominent note stating “Summarized by Apple Intelligence.” This change aims to enhance user awareness about when AI is at play in their notifications.
Simplifying Opt-Out Options
For those who wish to opt out, navigating through settings remains straightforward but requires a quick adjustment: simply go to Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri and switch off the feature using the toggle button.
Additional Enhancements Beyond AI
The updates aren’t limited to AI functionalities; there are several other refinements that enhance overall usability. For instance, Visual Intelligence can now extract calendar events from visual media such as posters and flyers—an impressive leap forward for calendar management. Moreover, its algorithms have improved recognition capabilities for various plant species and animals. As always with any software upgrade, numerous small bug fixes have also been implemented for smoother performance.
How to Update Your Device
If you haven’t yet updated your device with the new software version, you can easily do so by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.
