Funding Boost for Pre-production Design Innovations in Energy Storage
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has unveiled an exciting new funding initiative through its Office of Electricity (OE)—the Aligning Manufacturability & Pre-production Design (AMPD) program—which will allocate up to $8 million to enhance the production processes for energy storage technologies. According to Gene Rodrigues, Assistant Secretary at DOE’s Office of Electricity, “This funding opportunity is pivotal in driving advancements during the initial production phases which promote a reliable and economically viable grid by encouraging local manufacturing of energy storage solutions.” He emphasized that making these technologies more affordable will facilitate their broader adoption and utilization.

The NOFO is open to a wide array of applicants including colleges and universities, private companies, non-profit organizations, state agencies, local governments, Tribal authorities, and other innovators dedicated to enhancing pre-production designs within energy storage technology sectors.
