Ford Pro Partners with Southern Company for Fleet Electrification Pilot
The commercial vehicle segment of Ford, known as Ford Pro, has initiated an innovative six-month pilot program in collaboration with energy leader Southern Company. This initiative aims to facilitate the transition of businesses toward electric fleet solutions.

“As companies face escalating fuel prices and seek lower total ownership expenditures, there is a discernible shift towards electric vehicles within the southeastern United States,” notes Ford. “Currently, over 100,000 electric vehicles are registered across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.” Understanding this shift’s implications for businesses, Atlanta-based Southern Company has teamed up with Ford Pro for a pilot that aims to evaluate operational efficiencies linked with electrification efforts.

Southern Company’s commitment extends deeply into creating effective electrification strategies tailored specifically for businesses. Clearly perceiving potential growth avenues within its own operations following this partnership: “This initiative will harness insights generated during the pilot phase,” said a representative from Southern Company whose subsidiaries serve upwards of 587,000 business clients across its regions. The focus will be on enhancing depot charging practices—including cost management—and optimizing vehicle readiness while reducing overall ownership expenses.
The Role of Advanced Software Solutions
The successful operation of an efficient electric fleet entails more than simply acquiring EVs; it also requires sophisticated software solutions—a responsibility that falls under Ford’s expertise again here. “The pilot program will utilize Ford Pro Intelligence alongside advanced charging software,” highlighting the collection and analysis capabilities leveraging data from over 200 F-150® Lightning® trucks along with charging information from more than 150 designated chargers—spanning both Level 2 AC and Level 3 DC outlets provided by Southern Company’s affiliates.
Building Flexibility into Electric Fleet Management
“Our objective is to develop a scalable model for managing electric fleets that can be easily replicated,” stated Ananya Gupta, Senior Product Manager at Ford. ”Once completed, participants in this program should have comprehensive guidelines outlining their journey toward widespread EV adoption while tapping into all associated advantages.”
