The Pursuit of a Bezel-less Smartphone: Apple’s Vision for the Future
While advancements have been made in reducing screen bezels, the fully bezel-less phone remains elusive. Reports suggest that Apple has been collaborating with both Samsung Display and LG Display to create a bezel-free iPhone screen for several years; however, production remains out of reach.
Projected Release Timeline: A Shift in Expectations
Initially, Apple had set its sights on launching a “zero-bezel” iPhone by 2025 or 2026. However, recent updates from South Korean sources indicate that even hopes for a release in 2026 seem increasingly improbable due to technological limitations that have yet to be overcome.
Design Vision: A New Direction for Screens
Apple’s vision appears focused on maintaining a flat screen design while subtly incorporating an angled edge—a style reminiscent of their Apple Watch displays. This concept is gaining traction among Chinese smartphone manufacturers as well. However, the intention is not to curve the screen excessively so as to avoid any distortion at the edges.
The Road Ahead: Patience Required for Innovation
Although Apple’s specific design aspirations are clear, achieving these goals in mass production seems just beyond reach at present. Therefore, enthusiasts and consumers may need to wait until at least 2027 before experiencing what could potentially be a groundbreaking zero-bezel iPhone.
