Vivo Leads Smartphone Sector in China for Q4 2024
During the final quarter of 2024, vivo emerged as the dominant player in China’s smartphone industry, dispatching an impressive 13.2 million units and securing a market share of 17.6%. This represents a remarkable growth rate of 14.8% compared to the same quarter in the previous year.
Apple and Huawei’s Competitive Landscape
Apple followed closely behind with shipments totaling 13 million units, accounting for a market share of 17.3%. However, this figure indicates a decline of 7.1% year-over-year (YoY). Meanwhile, Huawei nearly closed the gap with Apple by shipping 12.7 million devices in Q4, which corresponds to a market share of 16.9%, showing an annual increase of 14.4%.
Xiaomi’s Remarkable Surge
Xiaomi recorded substantial growth during this period, experiencing an impressive increase of 29.5%. The company shipped approximately 12.3 million smartphones, translating into a market share of roughly 16.4%. Following Xiaomi are Oppo and Honor, both holding an equal number of shipments at around 10.5 million units each and capturing about a total market share of 14%. Notably, while Oppo experienced moderate growth at 7.1%, Honor faced challenges with a significant decrease towering at 13.2%.
A Positive Outlook for Smartphone Shipments
The overall smartphone shipment figures for China in Q4 reached approximately 75 million units—a YoY growth rate reflecting an uptick of 5.3%. This marked the fourth consecutive quarter exhibiting positive growth when comparing year over year metrics.
For the full calendar year in 2024—smartphone deployments totaled around 271.4 million—signifying an increaseof about 3.
7% from last year’s figures.
This encouraging trend is expected to continue into upcoming quarters due to new initiatives such as smartphone subsidies introduced earlier this year that may potentially bolster ongoing consumer demand.
