My initial visit to Juarez, Mexico — participating in a charitable effort focused on providing essential resources such as shelter and education — was eye-opening. Arriving at the construction site revealed the stark reality faced by families there; we gathered near what served as one family’s home—a fragile structure assembled from pallets bound together with rope. Makeshift plastic barriers swayed helplessly against dust and rain while a young mother greeted us warmly despite her circumstances.

As we collaborated directly with the family on their new home’s framework—framing walls and applying paint—we were surrounded by laughter and exuberance that showcased genuine joy amidst adversity.
