Recently, Cook made headlines by contributing $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund. Following Trump’s November victory, he congratulated him via social media platform X. Furthermore, in December, Cook dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago during his visit.

The response from the tech sector has been notable since November; major companies and leaders have expressed their support through substantial donations and engagement. Firms like Google, Amazon, Meta (formerly Facebook), Uber alongside individuals such as Sam Altman from OpenAI have contributed generously. Financial institutions including Goldman Sachs and Bank of America are also included among those backing Trump’s inauguration fund which has raised an impressive $200 million.
Navigating Tariffs: A Strategic Move
Amidst these developments is Trump’s announcement regarding new tariff policies. For Tim Cook and Apple specifically, this poses both a challenge and an opportunity to secure exemptions similar to those obtained during Trump’s previous administration. In fact, during his first term in office notably avoided tariffs on key products like iPhones and iPads while facing some charges for accessories including Apple Watches and AirPods. Back in 2019, Trump acknowledged that Cook “made a compelling argument” against these tariffs which could potentially disadvantage American businesses.
