Predecessor Reaches New Heights with Over Two Million Players and Exciting Update
Omeda Studios has proudly revealed that its free-to-play third-person action MOBA, Predecessor, has surpassed an impressive milestone of two million players. This announcement comes alongside the launch of the much-anticipated Patch 1.4.
The Introduction of Boris: A Game-Changing Hero
Patch 1.4 unveils Boris as a newly playable character, igniting excitement among fans. Known as the Beast Reforged, Boris is set to make waves on the battlefield by merging raw primal force with cutting-edge technology. Gamers will finally get to experiment with his thrilling skill set—particularly his signature ability, Ursine Burst—an ultimate power that enables him to surge forward rapidly, snatching an enemy hero in his path and crashing them down hard on the ground. This explosive action generates shockwaves that inflict significant damage upon nearby foes.
A Remarkable Comeback Story
The substantial player base serves as a testament to Omeda’s revival strategy for Predecessor—a title originally developed by Epic Games under the name Paragon before its closure in 2018. Rather than letting it fade away entirely, Epic Games opted for an open-source approach which allowed game creator Robbie Singh to take over development in 2021.
Impressive Growth and Development Milestones
After four years of dedicated development—during which Omeda Studios raised $22 million (partially through a grant from Epic)—the game successfully launched across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms in August 2024. As a result of this growing success story, Omeda’s team expanded from just five initial members at development’s inception to over eighty today.
Loot Cores: A Rich New System for In-Game Rewards
Patching version 1.4 also introduces Loot Cores—a fresh way for participants to acquire diverse in-game items through various challenges and participation in seasonal events.
- Ionic and Quantum Cores: There are two types available; Ion Cores yield common through rare loot whereas Quantum Cores can drop up to legendary items.
- Drops: Both core types can provide Amber, Platinum, or Opals while one Ion Loot Core is refreshingly available each day within the main store for purchase using Amber.
- Lucky Opens: Opening four consecutive Quantum Loot Cores guarantees at least a rare skin if not previously obtained one.
Additonally featuring in this patch is access to Loot Cores via the freshly launched Shadow Ops Battle Pass that centers around an enigmatic new faction within Predecessor’s universe offering exclusive rewards across sixty premium-level tiers along with ample chances for unlocking items tailored for every hero journeying through the realm of Predecessor.
Upcoming Launch Details
Patching version 1.4 is expected to go live at approximately noon GMT on Tuesday March 11th, 2025; it will include further content updates alongside fixes like implementing voice chat features alongside enhancements made for custom match functionality among other improvements aimed at elevating gameplay experience overall since its astonishing origin story.
