The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been released, with a release date of June 5th, 2025. So, it will be a mere 64 days before we can get the device in our hands. If you couldn’t catch up on today’s Nintendo Direct, don’t worry! I have you covered for everything you need to know and will catch you up on what we don’t know yet.

Bigger Screen, Same Thickness

Something that I’ve been complaining about for a long time is just how small the screen is on the Nintendo Switch when you’re out and about. When smartphone screens themselves are regularly 6+ inches, the original Switch’s paltry 6.2-inch screen is tiny in today’s market. Thankfully, this is being rectified with the Switch 2’s screen being 7.9 inches.

That’s not all, though! The screen will now be able to run at an astonishing 120fps. Meaning the days of lag should be well behind us thanks to the 1080p screen, which is nearly double the pixel size of the original Switch. All while keeping the same thickness of only 13.9mm. It’s still going to be an LCD Screen, so no fancy OLED. This means for battery consumption, it will still just be sipping at the battery. Don’t despair, though, as the new screen now supports an HDR mode, too. So your colours will be far richer.

Joycon 2

Joycon 2 has moved away from the rails of the original Switch and now uses magnets. There is a handy button that you can press to detach the controllers from the system.

Aside from a mouse mode, you can use the JoyCon 2 flat on their side. The SL and SR buttons are substantially bigger in size now. This means that for normal adults playing, these buttons are far easier to use than their predecessors.

We’re told in the direct that the Thumbsticks are bigger, too. But we’re yet to be told just how big they are in comparison to the original Switch!

Device Improvements

While we haven’t been told if there are new speakers for the Switch 2 we have been told that there has been a rebalance of the sound in general, so the audio coming out of the Switch too should be far louder and clearer. The speakers are to be capable of providing 3D sound even without a headset. It gives you more directional sound awareness while you’re in game.

Speaking of sound, the Switch 2 now comes with a built-in mic at the top of the device!

This will allow you to finally voice chat with your friends while you’re playing and not need to use 3rd party services! Yay! Nintendo has said that this mic comes built-in with noise cancelation too, so it will just be picking up your voice and not everything that’s going on around you.

The Switch 2 has taken more of a robust approach to its kickstand too from its predecessors, offering a large robust kickstand allowing you to place it however you like!

Thankfully, there are now 2 charging ports on the Switch 2. One on the top and one on the bottom. Meaning that if you’re using accessories or just playing in table top mode, you can charge with ease.

Storage on the Switch 2 has increased substantially from 32GB to 256GB.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Dock has also improved too! It now has 4k Support and has a fan built in for serious gaming sessions, meaning that your new Switch never overheats.

So what’s the big unknown? Price!

Sadly, of all the new things we learned about the Switch 2 today, the one thing that wasn’t revealed was the price. Apparently the team over at Nintendo want us to wait a little longer to see what the pricing is closer to the launch of the console. But don’t worry, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear.

What do you think of the latest announcement? Are you excited for the new features of the Switch 2? Let us know down below!
