Initially known for its innovative smartphones, Meizu has redirected its focus towards the electric vehicle industry. The smartphone sector of the company has transitioned to new ownership under Dreamsmart Group, marking a significant shift in its corporate strategy.

During an interview with Mr. Gu Binbin, the executive director and leader of global operations at Dreamsmart, we learned that Meizu has remarkably penetrated 30 international markets in just one year since re-launching globally.

Strategic Investments for Growth
The infusion of capital from Dreamsmart is crucial for enhancing all aspects of smartphone creation—design, manufacturing, and distribution. Future aspirations include further expansion into markets within Southeast Asia and laying groundwork in Central and Eastern Europe as well as Latin America.
Mr. Gu expressed positive expectations about harnessing their collaboration with Geely Automaker. In several regions, they are already promoting both vehicles and smartphones concurrently. Initially, smartphones will be sold through online platforms where the brand establishes itself while simultaneously forging partnerships with brick-and-mortar stores.

A Diverse Range Amidst an Evolving Strategy
Historically, Meizu catered to a wide array of consumers by delivering devices across various price tiers—from budget-friendly options around $100 up to premium offerings priced near $700 in China; however this diversity hasn’t fully extended globally yet.
“Our current strategy emphasizes introducing midrange smartphone models to foreign markets,” Mr. Gu noted revealing their intent for future developments that would include a broader assortment down the line.
