LG Display Unveils Next-Level 4th-Generation OLED TV Technology
Today marks the launch of LG Display’s cutting-edge 4th-generation OLED television displays, which not only surpass the brightness levels showcased in 2024 but also offer enhanced energy efficiency and reduced glare. Among Engadget’s standout revelations at CES 2025, the LG OLED evo M5 gained significant attention largely due to its advanced display technology.
Impressive Brightness Boost and Energy Efficiency
The latest OLED panels can achieve incredible peak brightness figures reaching up to “4,000 nits,” a substantial increase of 33% compared to their predecessors. However, it’s important to clarify that maximum brightness does not equate to consistent luminosity across the entire screen area. Nevertheless, this advancement is particularly remarkable considering the common challenges faced by OLED displays in maintaining high brightness levels—especially when paired with improvements in power consumption estimated at “approximately 20% greater” on a standard 65-inch panel from this new generation.

Innovative Design Enhancements Leading to Superior Quality
The enhancements seen in this new line stem from refinements made within both the structural design and power supply mechanisms of the panels. The augmented luminance results from a strategic configuration where multiple LED layers—specifically employing a “Primary RGB Tandem structure”—are stacked with distinct layers for red and green alongside dual blue layers. This layered approach effectively amplifies light output while improving both overall brightness and “color fidelity.”
A New Era for Color Performance and Visual Experience
Additions such as an innovative film coating play a vital role in enhancing color reproduction by minimizing unwanted reflections off the screen’s surface as well as preventing excessive light absorption within the panel itself. According to company representatives, these innovations are aimed at producing superior “AI TVs,” though it is clear that consumers can expect an overall enhancement when viewing content on televisions utilizing these state-of-the-art panels.
Availability and Future Developments
This pioneering 4th-generation OLED technology will be incorporated into “premium mass-market” television models launching later this year. Furthermore, LG Display plans to extend its “Primary RGB Tandem structure” into upcoming Gaming OLED monitors as part of their future product lineup.
