Humane to Phase Out Ai Pin Soon
Humane has announced that it will cease operations of its $700 Ai Pin by the end of February, marking the device’s removal from service less than a year after its April 2024 debut.
humaneai pin image” width=”2000″ height=”1125″ class=”aligncenter size-full wp-image-922090″/>Functionality for the Ai Pin will persevere until noon Pacific Time on February 28. After this deadline, all functionalities such as calls, messaging capabilities, AI interactions and cloud connectivity will be disabled. Humane advises current users to back up their content through Wi-Fi before this cut-off date to retrieve any saved images, videos or notes due to irreversible data deletion post-February.
Implications of Change: Acquisition by HP
The unexpected withdrawal of the Ai Pin aligns with Humane’s acquisition by HP for a staggering $116 million. This transaction involves not only Humane’s innovative CosmOS AI technology but also encompasses over 300 associated patents and applications. As part of this arrangement, HP is set to onboard employees from Humane as well.
No Refunds for Most Users
Despite operating for just under a year and given the device’s swift discontinuation, Humane shows little inclination toward issuing refunds for most customers. Only individuals who fall within a designated window of return—specifically those who acquired an Ai Pin on or after November 15—will be eligible for reimbursement. All claims must be submitted prior to February 27; otherwise users face losing their entire investment amounting to $700.
Sustainable Options Following Discontinuation
In light of these developments, customers are encouraged to responsibly recycle their Ai Pins via electronic waste programs since online functionalities will become defunct post-February. The only remaining capability would be accessing offline information such as battery status.
For Further Updates
Additonal details regarding the cessation of the Ai Pin can be found on Humane’s official website.
