Following a string of 13 theft incidents targeting Apple Stores‍ in the London region,​ law enforcement has ⁣apprehended multiple ‌suspects. In a related case, a man from Pennsylvania has been sentenced for⁢ his‌ involvement in an Apple gift card fraud scheme.

London’s Apple Store ⁤Burglary: A Major Crime Wave

A total of 12 individuals, mostly⁣ minors, have been indicted concerning the series of robberies that affected several Apple Stores across⁣ London. These events unfolded over just three weeks and involved locations like Regent Street, Brent Cross,⁣ Bromley, Bentalls Centre, and Watford. The charges include conspiracy to commit robbery and theft from retail⁢ establishments; one individual even faces drug-related allegations.

Video Evidence Captures iPhone Theft in Manchester

In a separate incident elsewhere in the UK, ⁤surveillance footage revealed a man pilfering an ⁤iPhone ⁢from a display at an Apple Store. Upon being confronted by ‍staff requesting his departure from the store,‌ he made his ​escape.

Described humorously by The Daily Mail as a “thieving figure ⁢donning a deerstalker hat with red facial hair,” this theft occurred on January 14 at the Arndale Shopping Center in Manchester. The thief attempted to‍ abscond with additional devices but was thwarted when approached by employees.

The Department of Justice reported that⁤ these criminals managed to fraudulently⁣ obtain digital gift ‍card details while based overseas before dispatching this data to accomplices stateside who utilized it for acquiring high-end​ electronics—primarily Apple’s products. ⁤These ‌items were eventually stockpiled for shipment back to Asia.

Pennsylvania Man Sentenced Over Gift Card Fraud

Another significant ruling involves a Pennsylvanian who ‌received three years in prison tied to what was labeled as an “Apple gift card draining operation.” This young man pled ⁤guilty for associating with illicit organizations focused on retail crimes according to reports about incidents within Pittsburgh.’‍

His​ modus operandi included stealing gift cards primarily from Walmart outlets and manipulating them so he could extract funds illegally. As stated by Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry: “After unsuspecting consumers loaded money onto these cards, he siphoned off their⁢ balances without any intention of returning⁤ value.”
