Transitioning from Google Assistant to Gemini: What to Expect
It seems that a transition was inevitable — as Google continues to enhance its suite of AI offerings, particularly the advanced Gemini model and its assistant features. The tech giant has recently announced plans to migrate a larger user base from Google Assistant to Gemini in the near future. An excerpt from their official statement indicates:
“In the upcoming months, we will be upgrading more users on mobile platforms from Google Assistant to Gemini; furthermore, by the end of this year, traditional Google Assistant will no longer be available on most mobile devices nor downloadable through app stores.”
The company also emphasized that it plans to expand Gemini’s capabilities beyond just smartphones. Tablets, smart automotive systems, and various Internet of Things (IoT) devices are all set for this upgrade in the coming months. For now, however, users can continue using Google Assistant as usual.

Despite facing challenges during its initial rollout on Android devices—particularly in executing commands—Google has since refined user interactions by transferring specific command functionalities back to Google Assistant from Gemini. Nevertheless, it remains unclear how smooth this transition process will be as they prepare for these significant changes.
