Vivo Set to Challenge Apple’s Vision Pro with Upcoming Mixed Reality Headset
Vivo is gearing up to enter the mixed reality (MR) market, preparing to take a direct shot at Apple’s Vision Pro headset despite the latter’s tepid sales results. During a recent event, Vivo unveiled plans to launch its own MR headset in the coming year.
The initial prototype is expected to be showcased around September or October, and sources indicate that it might feature enhancements that surpass those found in the Vision Pro.
A Late-Stage Entrance into an Established Market
However, it’s worth noting that by the time Vivo’s device hits the market, Apple’s Vision Pro will have been available for over 18 months. Consequently, merely outpassing an older product may not seem particularly groundbreaking in a fast-paced tech landscape.
Vivo’s Ambitious Plans and Considerable Investment
An indication of Vivo’s commitment can be seen in its expansion of the MR development team to approximately 500 members. This suggests that Vivo believes there is significant potential within this space—even amid underwhelming sales figures for Apple’s offering. If executed well, especially at a more affordable price point while delivering comparable or superior experiences in key areas, Vivo could very well carve out a lucrative niche for itself.
Tentative Launch Timeline and Future Roadmap
The anticipated MR gadget will undergo “high-fidelity prototype experiences” across multiple cities in China by late 2025. However, specific details regarding its commercial release remain vague; one executive from Vivo has suggested that availability depends heavily on when supportive content ecosystems are ready for deployment.
