Apple to Manufacture AirPods in India Starting 2025
According to Bloomberg reports, Apple is set to initiate the production of AirPods in India for the first time, with operations expected to commence early next year. Manufacturing will take place at a Foxconn facility located near Hyderabad in Telangana, aimed at beginning around the first quarter of 2025.

The facility has already been trialing AirPods production and anticipates a rapid increase in output once formal manufacturing kicks off. This move marks only the second major Apple product assembled within India following the iPhone.
Background on Apple’s Decision
This decision was influenced by Apple’s request made back in late 2023. Internal discussions within Foxconn spanned several months as officials evaluated whether assembling AirPods was viable given their lower profit margins compared to other products. Ultimately, they resolved it would strengthen their partnership with Apple.
Government Incentives and Strategic Shifts
The Indian government’s financial incentives for local manufacturing of wireless devices and smart technology played a significant role in persuading Apple to relocate some of its production there. Additionally, this strategy aligns with Apple’s broader aim of diversifying its manufacturing away from China amid ongoing geopolitical tensions between that country and the United States.
In an earlier development last year, Jabil—another supplier for Apple—began producing enclosures for AirPods domestically before shipment to final assembly locations such as China and Vietnam. Reports indicate that iPhone exports from Indian facilities soared by one-third over six months leading up to September last year, totaling nearly $6 billion; it is anticipated that many AirPods manufactured locally will also be exported globally.
Looking Ahead
This pivotal shift not only boosts India’s position as an emerging hub for tech production but also advances Apple’s objective of increasing operational resilience against global supply chain disruptions. This new manufacturing initiative reinforces both companies’ commitments toward collaborative growth while propelling India’s role within the international tech landscape forward.
