For some time now, the tech community has been buzzing about the anticipated iPhone SE 4, which might also be unveiled under the name iPhone 16E. Previously, we had seen only unofficial CAD designs, but recent leaked images have surfaced online, giving us a clearer idea of what this budget-friendly device could look like in actual use.
A Closer Inspection of the iPhone SE 4
Renowned Apple leaker Sonny Dickson recently posted two images on X (previously known as Twitter), showcasing dummy models of the alleged iPhone SE 4 in both black and white hues.
The first image provides a view from behind, featuring a single-camera setup with an accompanying LED flash. Notably, this camera appears to protrude slightly from the panel rather than sitting flush and is noticeably larger compared to previous iterations.
The second image reveals the left profile of this device. It adopts a flat-edged design reminiscent of the iPhone 14 model. This aligns with speculation that Apple is implementing components from its earlier flagship series into its budget range. Key elements include positions for the mute switch, volume controls, and SIM tray; however, contrary to prior rumors, there’s no action button similar to what’s featured on newer models like the iPhone 16.

If you’re fond of Apple’s earlier aesthetic offerings like those found in older generations such as the iPhone 4—known for their flatter sides and minimalist rear—these dummy units may resonate with you. However, it’s essential to keep in mind that these are still pre-production models; hence minor adjustments may occur before final release.
The front display remains unseen in these photos; however, previous CAD leaks indicate that it will incorporate a notched design which replaces the thick bezels found around current versions of the iPhone SE (review). Furthermore: upgraded specifications are expected including an enhanced rear camera sensor—reportedly up to an impressive resolution of 48 MP along with Apple’s latest A18 chip designed for superior performance and advanced AI-powered functionalities within apps and services.
Pivotal Release Timeline Insights
Blogger Mark Gurman at Bloomberg suggests that Apple aims for a spring launch window in March or April 2025 for releasing this next-generation smartphone. Additionally noted by leaker Majin Bu is speculation surrounding potentially adopting “iPhone 16E” branding instead of continuing exclusively under “iPhone SE”.
