Stunning Eclipse Imagery Captured by Firefly’s Blue Ghost Lunar Lander
The Blue Ghost lunar lander, developed by Firefly Aerospace, has documented an incredible solar eclipse event from the surface of the Moon. In this celestial display, Earth obscures a significant portion of the Sun, leaving behind a captivating ‘diamond ring’ visual effect reminiscent of the logo from the popular TV show Heroes, which aired in the early 2000s.
Timing of the Unique Event
The enchanting image was taken around 1:30 AM ET on Friday as Earth’s shadow gradually enveloped the Sun. Interestingly, this lunar solar eclipse coincided with a total lunar eclipse visible from Earth, where audiences witnessed a striking crimson transformation of the Moon’s surface.

Eclipse Duration and Additional Imagery
The duration of this remarkable event at Mare Crisium lasted approximately five hours. In addition to capturing dynamic images during peak moments of the eclipse, Firefly also shared photographs showcasing its solar panel as it began to retreat into Earth’s shadow—an impressive sight for space enthusiasts everywhere.
Successful Landing Marking New Milestones
Pioneering Missions for Future Exploration
This mission marks Firefly’s inaugural venture onto lunar terrain; therefore, Blue Ghost is equipped with ten instruments provided by NASA designed specifically for exploring and gathering vital data about our natural satellite’s surface. The objectives align with NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative aimed at supporting future human expeditions to the Moon. The lander is projected to continue its operations until March 16.
Future Plans for Imaging and Data Transmission
Firefly plans to transmit more visuals from this extraordinary eclipse after ensuring that Blue Ghost’s X-band antenna warms up following exposure to extreme cold temperatures throughout these events. They have also released exciting point-of-view footage captured during their landing sequence.
