Apple Delays Siri’s AI Upgrade: What You Need to Know
The highly awaited transformation of Apple’s Siri, equipped with advanced AI capabilities, was initially expected to launch in April alongside iOS 18.4. However, recent developments suggest that this upgrade has faced additional delays.
As it stands now, Apple has publicly acknowledged the setback. The enhanced iteration of Siri will take longer to arrive than previously anticipated due to unanticipated challenges in its development process—a situation that might reflect the unpredictability in project timelines within Apple’s engineering teams.
This morning, Jacqueline Roy, an Apple spokesperson, communicated directly with John Gruber from Daring Fireball regarding these developments:
Siri is designed to assist users swiftly in finding information and completing tasks. Over the past six months, we’ve enhanced its conversational abilities and introduced functionalities such as ‘type to Siri’ and product insights while integrating ChatGPT technology. We are also focusing on personalizing the experience by equipping Siri with greater contextual awareness about individual preferences and enabling it to perform actions across various applications on your behalf. We recognize this will require more time than originally estimated and expect these features will be available over the next year.
Did you catch that? The revised timeline for release is now set for “over the next year.” This indicates a much more extended delay than what had been circulating in earlier rumors—neither a matter of weeks nor even months but an entire year!
If you’ve been eagerly awaiting a more personalized version of Siri capable of understanding your habits and executing tasks within apps seamlessly on your behalf, prepare yourself for an even longer wait.
In the meantime, during next month’s rollout of iOS 18.4, users in Europe can finally look forward to experiencing whatever current capabilities Siri offers along with access to additional language support.
