African Development Bank opens second digital centre of excellence in Kenya

The African Development Bank has opened a second Information and Communications Technology Centre of Excellence on the United States International University-Africa in Nairobi as half of its Coding for Employment program.

The African Development Bank’s Coding for Employment program is remitted with creating the capability of African youth by equipping them with sensible Twenty first-century abilities, in addition to employability and entrepreneurship abilities, to extend their competitiveness in native and world labour markets. It is funded via a partnership between the Bank and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Technical companions, Junior Achievement Kenya, and Microsoft joined the Bank and Rockefeller Foundation to determine this second centre in Kenya. These centres are open to youth aged 15 – 35 who’ve enrolled in the Coding for Employment program, and who don’t qualify or have the means to attend conventional college packages. Coding for Employment and its companions intention to achieve over 1,800 Kenyan youth via the 2 centres.

“The United States International University-Africa is excited to partner with the African Development Bank in this initiative because it perfectly aligns with the University’s strategic plan that aims to educate our young people for complex global challenges and be the changemakers in Africa,” mentioned the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Margee Ensign.

Some perks for Coding for Employment program beneficiaries embrace entry to demand-driven digital abilities, entrepreneurship, and gentle abilities curriculum to spice up their employability in info and communications expertise or tech-enabled sectors. The college centre is provided with 40 computer systems, printers, desks, ergonomic workplace chairs, an geared up convention room, and projectors.

The program first opened the primary Kenyan centre of excellence on the University of Nairobi in March 2022.  Overall, on-line and in-person Coding for Employment packages have reached 152,000 youth throughout the continent.
