Earlier this year, I discussed a tabletop exercise focused on AI security incidents, orchestrated by the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) under the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). This pivotal gathering united key players from both industry sectors and government bodies.
The findings from these discussions were instrumental in shaping the AI Security Incident Collaboration Playbook, devised to bolster operational cooperation among government entities, private businesses, and international partners. To further enhance the Playbook’s integrity and relevance, a second tabletop exercise was held. This event engaged major AI corporations like Cisco alongside critical infrastructure organizations that are actively integrating AI technologies into their operations. Such involvement ensured that the Playbook reflects current realities, rendering it both actionable and relevant to practitioners tackling real-time challenges.
CISA has now published this invaluable resource publicly for professionals and organizations operating within various industries. This tool is designed to improve readiness levels, facilitate response coordination during incidents, and build resilience against security threats linked to AI. It provides essential guidance for stakeholders confronting the intricate landscape of securing artificial intelligence systems.
The creation of this playbook involved extensive collaboration among numerous experts specializing in AI and cybersecurity from both governmental agencies and industrial sectors participating in table-top exercises. Notable contributors like Alie Fordyce, Hyrum Anderson, and Josh Jackson took an active role in these exercises while significantly contributing to the development of this resource. Leveraging diverse expertise enabled us to establish best practices tailored for addressing the rapidly transforming dynamics of AI along with its cybersecurity implications.
The Key Features of The Playbook
- Offers strategic direction on voluntarily sharing pertinent information regarding incidents or vulnerabilities tied to AI frameworks.
- Facilitates partnerships between U.S Federal entities, private sector players, international governments as well as members of the AI community while emphasizing awareness regarding electronic risks associated with AI across crucial infrastructures—ultimately enhancing overall security posture for AI technologies.
- Includes actionable guidelines tailored specifically for Sector Risk Management Agencies (SRMAs) alongside other involved parties seeking effective information sharing tactics concerning potential threats.
