Imagined design of the upcoming iPhone 17‌ Slim

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that⁢ initial ‍estimates regarding the thickness of the forthcoming iPhone 17 Slim ⁤are inaccurate, especially ‍concerning certain sections of the device.

Kuo now posits that the actual ‌thickness will be approximately 5.5mm, likely ‍applicable only to a portion of the phone itself.

He notes in ‌his blog, “The ultra-slim iPhone slated for late 2025 could have ⁣its thinnest area measure around 5.5mm.” However,⁢ he does not clarify what aspect this measurement refers to, raising questions about its‌ implications.

It’s possible he is‍ indicating that this ⁤figure pertains to the chassis while suggesting⁢ that components ⁤like⁣ the camera bump may⁣ lead to increased ⁢width. Alternatively, Apple might be intending to enhance perceived slenderness with a wedge-like form factor reminiscent of earlier MacBook Air models.

Yet considering reports indicating that achieving such thinness is already impacting battery capacity‌ in the iPhone‍ 17 Slim, it seems unlikely Apple would opt for any ⁣design elements similar to a wedge shape at this stage.

Moreover, Kuo continues to support claims stating that due to its compact⁤ construction, there might be no space ⁤for⁤ a SIM card‌ tray on this‍ model. While such exclusion⁢ won’t affect consumers in⁣ regions like the United States where eSIM technology prevails, many‍ other nations still ⁣rely⁤ on physical SIM cards—something Kuo predicts could hinder market performance in China.

Regardless of these concerns, Kuo‍ believes there’s potential for sales of the iPhone 17 Slim to surpass those of its predecessor—the iPhone 16 Plus—but cautions that overall⁢ sales won’t see significant growth as he anticipates pricing will exceed that of previous models.

Furthermore, it is expected that pursuing an ultra-thin aesthetic may lead Apple ⁣to downgrade some components compared with standard designs from prior generations. Among⁣ various speculations circulating in ⁢tech circles is one suggesting⁢ reductions in ⁤camera ⁣capabilities on this sleek iteration.

Historically recognized as ⁤a reliable source ‍within Apple’s ecosystem leaks and news updates ‌about their⁢ products, Ming-Chi Kuo’s accuracy has somewhat diminished over recent⁤ years. His insights tend increasingly towards speculation grounded chiefly ⁤on personal assessments‌ alongside information from his supply chain contacts.
In his latest commentary ⁤regarding these developments surrounding‌ Apple’s⁢ next flagship phone ⁢model complexly blurs ‍lines between confirmed details and conjecture; however at least some parts have foundations built upon dialogues with essential suppliers involved directly with production‌ processes.
