At present, One UI allows users to prioritize notifications based on their importance or arrival time and offers individualized adjustments. Recent revelations from a Reddit thread indicate that the beta version of One UI 7 incorporates a novel feature within the notification settings titled “Filter notifications.”
Understanding the Innovative “Filter Notifications” Feature in One UI 7
The “Filter notifications” function empowers users to minimize non-essential alerts by sorting them into designated categories within the notification panel. This feature is equipped with three distinct toggles designed for varying levels of notification filtering:
- Archived Notifications: This filter suppresses expired app alerts.
- Background Notifications: It filters out alerts from applications operating in the background.
- Simplified Notifications: Users can manage alerts that have been manually categorized as “simplified” through settings.
If notifications are classified under these categories, they will still be visible in the panel but will be consolidated into an undefined card labeled “More notifications” for easier access. Although these grouped items aren’t clearly labeled by category sightings, they can be viewed upon expanding this card. Users may either explore details with few taps or clear them away manually similar to standard notifications.
A Comparison: Samsung Versus Google’s Notification Management
This newly introduced feature from Samsung seems to surpass Google’s default Android notification management solutions by providing increased customization options. Google is reportedly working on enhancing its own system with “Bundled notifications” set for Android version 16; however, it’s yet to be clarified how—if at all—Samsung plans to incorporate this improvement into its own interface.
The stable rollout of One UI 7 is slated for launch between January and February next year. Based on insights from its beta phase, it appears highly probable that this filtering capability will make it into the final release version.
