Managing Diverse Responsibilities
In my role as Deputy Chair of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain, alongside working for a UK charity, I frequently toggle between different applications and documents. Before transitioning to my work with AppleInsider, I utilize a Keyboard Maestro macro that automatically closes all prior apps and opens those pertinent to my current task.
Daily Routine for Productivity
Each day—yes, even on weekends—kicks off with the Fantastical calendar and OmniFocus To Do apps on my iPhone. When my alarm goes off, I immediately check these applications to map out my day. Typically, this involves either sitting at my M1 Mac mini in the office or working from my M1 Max 14-inch MacBook Pro. The initiation of any AppleInsider-related task starts through Keyboard Maestro.
A Seamless Workflow with Technology
There are numerous methods available for setting up these workflows; I’ve experimented with Bunch app but find that Keyboard Maestro excels in managing multiple Spaces efficiently. While I have a large monitor aiding visibility, Spaces allow me to keep less-frequented applications easily accessible without them cluttering my workspace.
Scripting My Tasks
With each session initiated by Keyboard Maestro , I can open multiple essential apps simultaneously while arranging their windows systematically across the monitor’s expanse before switching back to main Space where I’m ready to dive into Drafts 5 for writing or checking emails via Mail.
The Surprise Element: OmniOutliner
Interestingly enough, I’m often using OmniOutliner daily—a fact that surprises me since outlining isn’t typically part of my process. However, it does provide an effective platform for jotting down initial ideas which allows subsequent expansion until clear plans emerge whether that’s structuring events or articles.
What begins as a simple note will often evolve into detailed thoughts forming sentences—sometimes leading me unexpectedly into drafting entire pieces there! Mike often teases this habit of mine quite lightly!
