Upcoming Developments in the Nothing Phone Lineup: What to Expect from Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Plus
The upcoming Nothing Phone (3a) and Nothing Phone (3a) Plus are set to make a significant shift as they transition from MediaTek processors to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, according to recent reports. This change follows earlier speculations about the hardware configuration of these eagerly awaited devices.
Evidence supporting this chipset upgrade has been discovered within the beta versions of Nothing OS 3.0, which operates on Android 15. The codename for the Nothing Phone (3a) is revealed as “asteroids,” while its counterpart, the Nothing Phone (3a) Plus, has been dubbed “asteroids_plus”. This naming convention aligns with a celestial theme that reflects innovation.
What’s New: Camera Enhancements
An exciting feature being introduced with these models is potentially revolutionary camera technology. The standard model, the Nothing Phone (3a), may include a telephoto lens; meanwhile, its more advanced sibling could redefine mobile photography by incorporating a periscope zoom camera. If true, this would mark a historic first for Nothing phones regarding such dedicated zoom capabilities. Up until now, previous models have only utilized dual-camera systems consisting of a primary lens accompanied by an ultrawide angle lens.
CMF Series Continuation
Additionally, plans are in place for the CMF Phone 2’s debut in 2025 under the codename “galaga.” This model will maintain its association with MediaTek chipsets rather than adopting Qualcomm technology.
eSIM Support on New Models
The introduction of eSIM capability also signals progress for Noting Phones; both the Phone (3a) and phone (3a) Plus reportedly aim to support this feature for enhanced connectivity options—this will be their first inclusion of eSIM functionality. Users can expect versatile SIM configurations that allow either one physical SIM combined with an eSIM or two physical SIMs working simultaneously. Conversely, it appears that fans hoping for similar features on the more budget-friendly CMF Phone 2 might be disappointed since it seems it won’t support eSIM technology.
