Thirteen Individuals Indicted in Modern Porch Pirate Scheme
In late February, federal authorities from New Jersey brought charges against 13 individuals accused of orchestrating “an international network responsible for pilfering thousands of shipments containing iPhones and other electronics across the United States.”
Among those charged, one resides in the Dominican Republic while the remainder are based in New York and New Jersey. They are alleged to have functioned as modern-day porch pirates.
According to prosecutors, they intercepted FedEx deliveries featuring iPhones, iPads, and Samsung devices while also bribing certain cellular carrier employees for information such as “orders, names, tracking numbers, and delivery addresses.” Some defendants reportedly operated a fencing operation from a residence located in the Bronx.
All thirteen faces conspiracy charges related to transporting stolen goods. Additionally, two were indicted on wire fraud conspiracy counts and another pair were charged with transporting stolen property.

CBS 12 reports that T-Mobile discovered losses exceeding $500K at two specific outlets before taking action.
The company deployed GPS trackers on packages leading them back to California where investigations continued.
Three arrested individuals were identified as UPS employees—one being a supervisor—while another suspect allegedly utilized his recording studio as a front for their operations.
Chinese Retail Executive Arrested Amid MacBook Discount Fraud Scheme
A 35-year-old Chinese man managing a computer retail store in Tokyo has been charged with running a scheme involving Chinese students purchasing MacBooks using student discounts only to resell them overseas.
As reported by The Japan Times, local police initially arrested him for facilitating purchases of 18 MacBooks from two different Apple Stores but believe he ultimately acquired around 700 units. Investigators noted potential involvement of company credit cards along with connections to an affiliate linked with organized crime known as the “Chinese Dragon.”
The accused has denied all allegations against him.
