Upcoming Changes in Android Notification Management
Effectively managing notifications on Android devices has always been straightforward and efficient. However, there has been limited innovation in this area over time. Recent reports indicate that Google may overhaul its notification system in a future version—potentially Android 16—by implementing a feature reminiscent of the sorting options found in Gmail.
Insights from the Latest Beta Update
The recent beta release of Android 15 QPR2 revealed an interesting component within the Notifications settings known as “Bundled notifications.” Although this function is currently inactive, tech enthusiast Rahman succeeded in enabling it, providing us with insights into its potential design.
How Bundled Notifications Could Function
This anticipated feature appears to have the capability to consolidate notifications from similar applications, thereby decreasing the total number of distinct alerts a user must manage. Nonetheless, specifics about its operation remain vague; some modified versions of Android, such as Samsung’s One UI, already offer sorting based on either importance or chronology.
It would not be unexpected for Google to incorporate artificial intelligence into this notification organization method, akin to Apple’s “Summarize Notifications and reduce interruptions” functionality introduced with iOS 18.
The Timeline for Release
The timeline for introducing bundled notifications remains uncertain. It could potentially be included in an impending update for Android 15 or debut alongside Android 16. If it’s part of the latter release, users may not have to wait long; Google has announced plans to launch Android 16 ahead of schedule compared to previous years.
