AMD Unveils New Processors and Graphics Cards at CES 2025
During its presentation at CES 2025, AMD unveiled an impressive lineup of new CPU models, accompanied by sneak peeks of future desktop graphics technologies and advancements in FSR image upscaling.
Introduction of Enhanced Ryzen 9000 Series CPUs
The highlight of AMD’s announcements was the introduction of two new processors from the Ryzen 9000 series for desktops: the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and the Ryzen 9 9900X3D. Both models leverage AMD’s innovative V-cache technology, which significantly increases cache size to enhance gaming performance.
AMD claims that when compared to its predecessor, the 7950X3D, these new models deliver approximately an additional eight percent in gaming speed and outperform Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K by twenty percent. For gamers who do not require extra cores for multitasking or productivity applications, opting for the previous generation’s model, the 9800X3D, could still provide ample performance.
Advancements in Handheld Gaming Chips
A significant update was also presented regarding AMD’s Ryzen Z series chips designed specifically for handheld gaming consoles like ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go. The flagship model is the Ryzen Z2 Extreme built on ‘Strix Point’ architecture similar to that used in AMD’s modern notebook CPUs. This processor boasts eight cores combining both Zen 5 and Zen 5c architectures alongside an upgraded RDNA 3.5 GPU equipped with sixteen graphics cores.
If you choose to go with the standard Ryzen Z2 model instead, you’ll find familiar specs as it exhibits only minor upgrades over its predecessor—essentially being a rebranded version of the previously released Ryzen Z1 Extreme sporting eight Zen four cores and twelve RDNA three graphics cores. Completing this line-up is a budget-friendly option known as Ryze n Z2 Go with just four Zen three plus cores coupled with an RDNA two GPU featuring twelve graphic units—a stark difference amidst similar branding that’s appeared problematic historically within AMD mobile products.
High-performance Offerings: The New Radeon Graphics Cards
AMD has also expanded its offerings in high-performance gaming notebooks with three newly announced chips from its Ryze n nine thousand HX Series. Among these is prominent Ryze n nine thousand fifty five HX three D—the sole variant equipped with V-cache functionality—while two others consist solely without it; namely th e nine thousand fifty five HX version retaining sixteen effective processing units followed by ri ze n nine eighty zero H X showcasing twelve core operations.
