Introducing the Sonim XP Pro Thermal: A New Era for Rugged Smartphones
For over ten years, Sonim has specialized in creating durable mobile devices, and their latest offering marks a significant innovation: the integration of a thermal camera designed specifically for professionals. This handset caters to various work sectors, including home inspection, automotive repair, and maintenance tasks.
An Evolution of the XP Pro Model
The Sonim XP Pro Thermal enhances its predecessor, the XP Pro launched recently. It continues to operate on the efficient Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset and is equipped with 8GB RAM along with 256GB of internal storage—expandable via a microSD card slot. The device maintains its resilient build with a 6.58-inch FHD+ display shielded by Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and houses a robust 5,000mAh battery. Notably, it rolls out with Android version 14 right from launch.
The Power of Thermal Imaging Technology
A standout feature is its FLIR Lepton 3.5 thermal imaging camera that seamlessly integrates with the proprietary Sonim IRIS app—an evolved form of MyFLIR Pro—now completely interoperable with FLIR’s Thermal Studio software suite. Additionally, there’s an available SDK from Sonim IRIS that allows third-party applications to utilize this advanced thermal functionality.
Applications Across Various Industries
This innovative tool empowers professionals to identify electrical malfunctions such as overloaded circuits or defective transformers; evaluate insulation quality; and detect leaks hidden behind walls among other uses. According to Sonim’s insights, sectors that would benefit from using the XP Pro Thermal include electrical maintenance services, HVAC operations, plumbing inspections and safety protocols in energy/utilities management contexts as well as automotive services. Further applications extend into construction projects, home renovations, agriculture practices (including pest control), and emergency response scenarios.
The cutting-edge capabilities make it an asset for various occupations.
Designed Tough: Built to Last
The construction adheres strictly to what Sonim refers to as their Rugged Performance Standards—demonstrating resistance against water exposure (IP68 rated), dust intrusion (IPX9K certified), severe shocks during use as well as testing under extreme temperature conditions (MIL-STD-810H certifications are currently undergoing validation through independent testing facilities).
Pre-orders Coming Soon!
Diligent users can soon place pre-orders for the new Sonim XP Pro Thermal model; however patience is key—the launch is expected in Europe and South Africa within Q2 of this year (April through June) followed by releases in additional regions later on yet no pricing information has been disclosed at this time.
