Ikea Set to Launch Versatile Temperature and Humidity Sensor
Ikea’s upcoming sensor is designed to be compatible with any Matter-enabled hub, not limited to its own Dirigera device.
Recent regulatory documentation indicates that Ikea is preparing to introduce a temperature and humidity sensor capable of utilizing the Matter-over-Thread connectivity standard. This development signifies that users of HomeKit will not be required to invest in an Ikea-specific hub.
After a gradual transition towards supporting the Matter smart home standard, Ikea is gearing up for the release of its soon-to-be-announced Timmerflotte sensor. The device’s specifications were unveiled through FCC filings, highlighting its compatibility with modern smart home systems.
Historically, Ikea’s range of smart home products has primarily depended on Wi-Fi or Zigbee networking protocols for interaction with their designated hubs. While some sensors have been compatible with Apple’s HomeKit since 2018, the anticipated Timmerflotte aims to eliminate the need for an Ikea hub altogether by working seamlessly with any compatible Matter-centric hubs.
Features and Design of the Timmerflotte Sensor
The forthcoming Timmerflotte sensor promises functionality alongside existing Apple or third-party Matter Controller devices. This enhancement broadens usage possibilities in homes already equipped with other Thread-enabled systems without necessitating additional hardware from Ikea. The gadget operates on two AA batteries and bears a similar size profile to conventional smoke detectors.
Awaiting Approval
While anticipation builds around this innovative device, it remains subject to FCC approval before hitting retail shelves. However, specific timelines regarding its public launch are still under wraps.
