Transforming Your Discover Feed: Google’s New Daily Listen Feature
Google has extensive knowledge about your preferences and interests, using this data to capture more of your attention. One of its latest innovations, dubbed “Daily Listen,” promises to convert your Discover feed into a professional-grade podcast experience. The Google Discover feature curates content on mobile devices, showcasing articles and videos that align with your personal interests based on your search history and online behavior. As highlighted by tech news outlet 9to5Google, this new functionality bears similarities to the NotebookLM tool released previously, which could transform provided content into a lively podcast featuring engaging hosts.
The Mechanics of Daily Listen
This new tool allows you to generate a podcast episode roughly five minutes long that summarizes recent developments in topics you regularly explore. For those interested in trialing this feature, activating Search Labs is necessary by tapping the flask icon located at the top left corner of the Google app. Once it’s activated, users can access the Daily Listen Card just beneath the search bar on both Android and iOS platforms. By clicking this card, you can initiate a podcast generation process that presents audio controls alongside a text transcript for ease of use.
User-Friendly Features
The audio scrubber visually indicates where each segment starts and ends within the podcast episode, providing options for pausing or rewinding as needed. Additionally, users can offer feedback using thumbs up or down ratings after listening. Should you seek more information related to what you’ve just heard; scrolling down reveals additional stories categorized according to each section covered in the podcast.
Availability and Future Prospects
This experimental feature is set to launch today across various regions in the United States per reports from 9to5Google; however, it may take time before all users see their option for generating podcasts appear within their apps. At present time it remains uncertain whether plans exist for expanding its rollout beyond US borders or if it will achieve widespread availability.
