Recent conceptual designs of the iPhone 17 Pro Max featuring an extensive camera bar are circulating, marking a notable shift from Apple’s traditional aesthetic, although they originate from questionable sources.
With limited space for its camera technology, Apple might benefit from a camera bar extending across the back of the device. This concept isn’t unprecedented; Google’s Pixel has utilized a similar design. However, there’s no confirmation that Apple will pursue this route.
The current visuals depict an excessive camera bar that appears more as an exaggerated version of Apple’s existing camera bump. These latest images come from Jon Prosser and his rendering collaborator Asher Dipprey.
In his presentation, Prosser exhibits his usual assertiveness, claiming to have observed the handset in person. Yet it appears that these renders are not based on his personal observation but rather indicate what he believes it may look like.
Upon further investigation, it’s revealed that these visuals stemmed initially from another leaker known as Majin Bu. Although Dipprey did create original designs for their use and Prosser’s claims, this specific design existed weeks prior to this discussion.

It’s conceivable that both leakers could be coincidentally on point with this design; however their previous track records cast doubt on such assertions. Previously, Prosser had predicted a flat-edged iPhone resembling earlier models with flush cameras—an outcome that didn’t materialize despite speculation about similarly shaped Apple Watches.
Majin Bu’s credibility is equally questionable due to regularly reposting materials found on various Chinese social media platforms. Instances where Bu was correct typically align with rumors previously shared by more credible sources within tech leaks.
The intersection of two unreliable leakers arriving at identical designs raises questions: were they both deceived or do they share accurate information? Sadly only time will tell when Apple unveils its iPhone 17 series later in autumn.
The reasoning behind adopting such a new aesthetic isn’t immediately clear either. According to Prosser’s insights suggestive aims could possibly stem from Apple’s desire for significant visual differentiation—but while amusingly expressed (especially regarding his thoughts on “toilet squad”), substantial evidence pushes back against this narrative occurring.(Note: “toilet squad” refers humorously or derogatorily towards people who fixate excessively on insignificant details).
