Rugged Oppo A5 Pro 4G with Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 quietly launches

Oppo has announced the A5 Pro. Yes, again. Again. This version appeared in Indonesia and is quite similar to the global model that was unveiled in February except powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 chipset instead of the Dimensity 6300.

Crucially, the 6s 4G Gen 1 is a 4G-only chipset (hence the name) with an X11 LTE modem. It has four Cortex-A73 and four A53 based cores, plus an Adreno 610 (Snapdragon 662/680 fans might find this familiar). The Dimensity is a 5G chip with newer hardware (A76 + A55 CPU cores), so this is a downgrade. Don’t worry, though, the A5 Pro 5G with the Dimensity 6300 is also available in Indonesia.

The rest is pretty much unchanged. The phone is configured with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. A microSD slot is available as well.

This Oppo A5 Pro features a 6.67” LCD, a 90Hz 720p+ panel with up to 1,000 nits of brightness. Oppo used Gorilla Glass 7i and AGC DT-Star D+ glass for this phone and boasts about how durable it is with IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings (hot water jets up to 80°C). It also has “military grade shock resistance” thanks to an aluminum motherboard cover.

Inside is a 5,800mAh battery with 45W SuperVOOC charging support. It’s big enough to stream video for 17 hours straight. Oppo claims that it will retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 4 years.

The Oppo A5 Pro costs IDR 3,100,000 for the 8/128GB model, which converts to $190/€175/₹16,400. There’s also the 8/256GB model for IDR 3,500,000, which comes with a free pair of Enco Buds3 Pro (which go for IDR 450,000 on their own). The 5G model (8/256GB) sells for IDR 4,300,000. You can find both the 5G model and the new 4G one over on Oppo’s online store.
