One noteworthy development comes from Integrals Power, a UK-based company that has introduced a pioneering lithium-manganese-iron-phosphate (LMFP) battery designed for enhanced performance and affordability in electric vehicles (EVs).

Integrals Power positioned their LMFP batteries as remarkably efficient; they have been validated at extreme discharge rates of up to 10C. Their testing indicated that at a rate of 5C, the material retained an impressive 92% capacity, while at 2C, this figure climbed to an outstanding 99%. Even under extreme scenarios at 10C—well outside typical usage—the battery still showed substantial capacity retention of around 60%.
This advance can be attributed to Integrals’ focus on increasing manganese content without sacrificing energy density. Before rigorous testing by QinetiQ and others commenced, their initial evaluations reported a manganese percentage reaching 80%, alongside achieving nearly 150 mAh/g-in specific capacity—a key milestone.
#### Advantages Over Conventional Compounds
Integrals claims its innovative LMFP formula presents higher performance metrics and longevity compared to traditional Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells while being more cost-effective and requiring fewer critical minerals than Nickel Cobalt Manganese variants (NCM). Given that LFP is favored by automotive manufacturers in China due to lower costs, achieving higher performance with reduced expenses represents significant progress.
