Blue Dot Games Breathes Life into ’83: A Cold War Shooter Revival
Blue Dot Games is revamping ’83, a multiplayer first-person shooter set against the tense backdrop of the Cold War, following its cancellation by a previous publisher.
Funding Breakthrough After Years of Effort
After an intensive 18-month fundraising effort, the studio has announced that it secured partial funding from an angel investor through discussions in their Discord community. These funds are dedicated to advancing development for five months as part of their campaign to ultimately launch the game within a year.
The studio aims for a level of accessible realism and has initiated a Kickstarter campaign aimed at boosting production costs beyond the initial investment. The goal is not just to complete development but also to create a robust platform for future updates and expansions.
’83 features intense battles between American and Soviet forces in an alternative Cold War scenario.
A Small Team with Big Dreams
With only 14 individuals on board, Blue Dot Games expresses both pride and gratitude given that investors are increasingly cautious about new gaming ventures in today’s challenging economic landscape. Funding communication occurred mainly via direct messages on Discord; Kevin Green, one of the investors and an enthusiast of Rising Storm 2, shared how he became involved: “One day, Tony Gillham (CEO) informed our ’83 Discord channel that they sought testers for a promotional video intended for potential funding groups.”

The Investor’s Perspective
Green elaborated on his investment philosophy: “I have been working in finance for almost ten years now and have successfully invested within various sectors like semiconductors. This experience prompted me to explore private equity opportunities further—a field where my interest lies heavily within gaming,” he explained. His confidence grew after observing Blue Dot Games’ vision taking shape around ‘83’s concept.
A Game Reborn from Closure
The origins of ‘83 trace back to Antimatter Games before it closed its doors under Enad Global 7 in early 2023 along with several other projects like IGI Origins lying dormant afterward. Recognizing its dedicated following, Blue Dot decided at the end of 2023 to acquire rights over ‘83 as part of their commitment towards revitalizing this title into something extraordinary once again.
