The Hyundai Ioniq 5: Bigger Than Meets the Eye

A Milestone for Hyundai
Having been on the market for four years now, the Ioniq 5 is currently produced at Hyundai’s new manufacturing facility in Georgia. This model was groundbreaking as it was built on their E-GMP platform designed specifically for mid-sized and larger electric vehicles (EVs) offering rear-wheel or all-wheel drive options. The vehicle utilizes an advanced 800-volt system that facilitates impressive DC fast charging capabilities. For its 2025 iteration, Hyundai has made some updates to enhance its aesthetic appeal and introduced an adventurous XRT variant catering to off-road enthusiasts. Subtle Yet Significant Enhancements
This year’s cosmetic changes include revamped wheel designs along with accentuated details on both front and rear bumpers intended to highlight its crossover utility vehicle (CUV) characteristics. According to Brad Arnold, head of exterior design at Hyundai Design, these alterations are aimed at reinforcing the vehicle’s visual identity. Inside, buyers will discover a redesigned center console featuring improved infotainment systems compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connections. An updated steering wheel now has integrated lights indicating battery status—an innovative but significant enhancement—and a new rear windshield wiper ensures practicality remains intact.
Improved Power Options
This year’s offerings also introduce upgraded battery packs: The SE standard range version starts at $42,500 with an enhanced capacity moving from 58 kWh to 63 kWh resulting in an increased range of 245 miles (394 km) compared to last year’s 220 miles (354 km). Other trims have shifted to utilize an 84 kWh battery pack instead of 77.4 kWh from previous models. Drivers seeking maximum distance should opt for single-motor rear-wheel-drive configurations boasting up to 318 miles (511 km) per charge available in SE ($46,550), SEL ($49,500), or Limited ($54,200) trims.
A noteworthy addition is the NACS charging port standard across North American versions which provides access to Tesla’s expansive Supercharger network; CCS adapters come included as well! Thanks again to its state-of-the-art architecture, recharging can reach from just 20% up to approximately 80% within merely 20 minutes, utilizing either a 350kW DC fast charger or about half an hour using Tesla Version 3 chargers.
The Adventure Ready XRT Trim
The newly-introduced XRT trim caters specifically towards those who dare venture off-road—it features increased suspension height by nearly one inch alongside rugged tires set against bold steel-inspired wheels measuring 18 inches wide!
