OPEN COMPETITION 2023 CATEGORY WINNERS & SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED

The World Photography Organisation is happy to announce the class winners and shortlist within the Open competitors of the Sony World Photography Awards 2023, recognising the most effective single photographs from 2022.

Over 415,000 photographs from over 200 nations and territories have been submitted to the Sony World Photography Awards 2023 and over 200,000 have been entered into the Open competitors. Each winner receives digital imaging tools from Sony and can go on to compete for the celebrated Open Photographer of the Year title and a $5,000 (USD) prize.

The general winner of the Open competitors can be introduced on the Awards’ ceremony in London on 13 April. Selected successful and shortlisted photographs can be proven as a part of the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition at Somerset House from 14 April-1 May 2023.

The ten class winners are:

ARCHITECTURE

Mark Benham (United Kingdom) for The Silos, a collage-like picture of silos and surrounding buildings in eye-catching rosy hues on the Port of Brest in France.

CREATIVE

Boris Eldagsen (Germany) for PSEUDOMNESIA | The Electricia, a haunting black-and-white portrait of two girls from completely different generations, paying homage to the visible language of Forties household portraits.

LANDSCAPE

Giorgos Rousopoulos (Greece) for his picture of a Greek mountain panorama that includes a hiker climbing up Mount Tymfi, standing majestically within the background and overlooking Pindus National Park.

LIFESTYLE

Azim Khan Ronnie (Bangladesh) for Childhood, capturing youngsters weaving out and in of scores of big cones (topas) in a Bangladeshi rice processing plant as they play with a cart utilized by staff to hold and dry rice.

MOTION

Zhenhuan Zhou (China Mainland) for Slam on the Brakes, capturing a cowgirl in a barrel racing competitors in Ontario, Canada. In these competitions, cowgirls journey round barrels with the quickest one topped because the winner.

NATURAL WORLD & WILDLIFE
