Although this is not the fastest Core i7-12700H implementation we’ve seen, the combination of this processor with an RTX 3070 Laptop GPU impresses in our review of the MSI Crosshair 15 Rainbow Six: Extraction Edition. The laptop also offers a good QHD 165 Hz panel that can come in handy for content creators as well.
MSI launched two Crosshair 15 variants earlier this year — the regular Crosshair 15 and the Crosshair 15 Rainbow Six: Extraction Edition (R6E). We have reviewed the latter and were impressed by the performance on offer at the asking price of ₹1,90,990 (US$2,312).
The Crosshair 15 R6E will naturally appeal to fans of Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six: Extraction co-op FPS title. Those not invested in the franchise may not take a liking to the laptop’s game-themed design. Nevertheless, the design makes the Crosshair 15 R6E stand out from the competition even if it is essentially just a reskin of the Pulse GL66.
MSI has endowed the Crosshair 16 R6E with an very capable QHD 165 Hz panel. In our tests, the panel offered wide color gamut coverage, no PWM, and decent response times.
The Intel Core i7-12700H in the Crosshair 15 R6E is limited to a PL2 of 121 W irrespective of the performance mode chosen. This puts it a slight disadvantage compared to the competition such as the Lenovo Legion 5i Pro 16 G7 and MSI’s own Stealth GS66. On the GPU side, the RTX 3070 Laptop GPU is rated at a 140 W TGP and performs admirably, on par with laptops featuring the RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU in most cases.
Although power consumption seems to be on the higher side, the thermal and noise emissions are very much tolerable.
Overall, if you are on the lookout for a capable QHD midrange gaming laptop, the Crosshair 15 R6E definitely merits a consideration.
