The upcoming iPhone Air was initially intended to operate solely on wireless charging.
Apple once aimed to introduce the iPhone 17 Air as its first entirely wireless smartphone; however, it appears this decision has shifted.
Recent reports indicate that Apple entertained the idea of creating a completely portless version of one of its future iPhones. Known for now as the iPhone 17 Air, this model was considered without a USB-C port, but Apple has evidently reconsidered this approach.
In response to potential regulatory concerns from authorities in the European Union, Apple is reportedly planning to retain a USB-C port for charging purposes after all.
For years, Apple has been trying to strike a balance between designing slimmer and lighter devices while ensuring adequate durability. The company faced backlash back in 2014 when reports suggested that the iPhone 6 Plus could be prone to bending if kept in tight pockets.
Current rumors suggest that Apple’s finalized design strategy for the iPhone Air features a 6.6-inch display, making it approximately two millimeters thinner than existing models—effectively reducing its thickness by about 20% compared to prior versions.
Despite these reductions and necessary design adjustments, it is anticipated that the iPhone Air will not compromise on performance. It is expected to maintain comparable battery life with previous models thanks to an innovative new battery configuration.
Anticipation continues as we look forward to seeing the slimmer and lighter iPhone Air officially debut within the broader scope of Apple’s iPhone 17 lineup slated for release in autumn 2025.
